Privacy Policy

Pocket Classical Privacy Policy

Effective date: March 11th 2026

Pocket Classical (“the App”) is designed to be privacy-first. The App does not require you to create an account, and your journal content stays on your device.

This Privacy Policy explains what information the App uses, what it does not collect, and how external links and partner content work.

1) Who we are

Pocket Classical is published by: Michael J. Stewart /  Pocket Classical
Contact: enquiries@pocketclassical
Website: pocketclassical.com

2) What the App stores on your device

The App stores the following locally on your device:

  • Journal entries you create (concert logs, notes, programme text, performers, venue/location details).
  • Scans/attachments you add to journal entries (PDFs saved on your device).
  • Optional profile photo for the Journal area (if you choose to add one).
  • App preferences, such as dark mode and your Journal Lock setting.

This data is stored on-device and is not uploaded to Pocket Classical servers.

3) Biometrics and Journal Lock

If you enable Journal Lock, the App may use Face ID / Touch ID (or device passcode fallback) to unlock the Journal.

  • The App does not receive your fingerprint or face data.
  • Biometric data is handled by Apple’s system APIs on your device.
  • The App only receives a “success/failure” result from the authentication prompt.

You can turn Journal Lock off at any time in the App settings.

4) What the App collects from you

Pocket Classical is designed to minimise data collection.

The App does not collect:

  • Your name, email address, phone number, or account credentials (no account is required).
  • Your precise location (GPS).
  • Your contacts.
  • Your journal text or scans (these remain on your device).
  • Any device advertising identifier (IDFA).
  • Any “cross-app” tracking information.

5) Network requests and partner content

The App may make a small number of network requests in order to display optional content:

A) Sponsor configuration (sponsors.json)

The App downloads a configuration file (sponsors.json) from Pocket Classical servers to show partner/sponsor panels (e.g. orchestra and shop spotlights). This request is used to retrieve images and destination links.

B) Sponsor tap tracking (privacy-friendly)

When you tap a sponsor panel, the App sends a minimal request to a Pocket Classical tracking endpoint to record aggregate counts. This request includes:

  • the slot (e.g. “orchestras”, “venues”, “shops”)
  • the sponsor ID (e.g. “rpo”, “presto-music”)

This tracking is designed to be privacy-friendly:

  • no login
  • no cookies required
  • no advertising identifier
  • no journal data
  • no attempt to identify you as an individual

We use these counts to understand which partner links are being used and to report aggregate engagement.

C) External links

When you open an external link (e.g. a sponsor website or the Pocket Classical journal page), the App opens that website in an in-app browser. External websites have their own privacy policies and may collect data according to their own practices.

Pocket Classical does not control third-party websites.

6) Photos and camera permissions

The App may request access to:

  • Photos (if you choose to add/change your Journal profile image)
  • Camera/Scanner (if you choose to scan pages into a journal entry)

These permissions are optional and only used when you choose to use the feature.

Scans and chosen photos are stored on your device. They are not uploaded to Pocket Classical servers.

7) Data retention

  • Your journal entries and attachments remain on your device until you delete them or remove the app.
  • Sponsor tap counts are stored as aggregate totals on our server.

8) Children’s privacy

Pocket Classical is not designed to collect personal information from children. The App does not require an account and is built to minimise data collection.

9) Your choices and control

You can:

  • enable/disable Journal Lock
  • add/change/remove your Journal profile photo
  • delete journal entries (and remove scans/attachments)
  • choose whether to open external websites

10) International users (UK/EU privacy notes)

If you are in the UK or EEA, you may have rights under applicable data protection laws (e.g. UK GDPR / EU GDPR), including:

  • the right to access information about data processing
  • the right to request deletion of personal data we hold (where applicable)

Because Pocket Classical does not collect journal content or require accounts, most personal data is stored only on your device. For sponsor tap counts (aggregate), contact us using the details above.

11) Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the effective date at the top.
